AMD Starts Working on Zen 6 Architecture Based on 2nm Process Node

It’s currently too far from now to even discuss Zen 6 as we still await Zen 5 which is supposedly going to launch the next year and will bring an IPC uplift of up to 25%.

However, when the information about Zen 6 is already getting leaked online, we might be able to estimate the improvements of the next-gen Ryzen CPUs.

The leaked information comes from a LinkedIn profile of one of the AMD engineers which has now been removed but fortunately, we have a snapshot. According to the snap, AMD has already named the next-gen Zen 5 and Zen 6 architectures as Nirvana and Morpheus respectively.


As we can see AMD started working on Zen 5 in Jan 2021 and should have already done the base work for the Ryzen 8000 series. The leaked information confirms that the Zen 5 will be based on a 3nm process node which is what we also see in AMD’s CPU roadmap.

Zen 6 architecture, on the other hand, looks interesting as it is supposedly based on the smaller 2nm process node which is the first in the industry. The work on the Power Management project on Zen 6 supposedly started in January this year.

As Zen 5 is going to be available in three different flavors, an APU family like the Strix Point is going to feature a Zen 5 and Zen 4c hybrid architecture and we can assume the same for a similar APU series that shall use Zen 6 and Zen 5c that will succeed the Zen 5 processors.
