AMD Ryzen 5 5600X is counted amongst the best gaming processors and thankfully, Intel is not that behind. It gives gamers alternatives such as Intel Core i5 10600K, 11600K and 11400F that are actually as good as Ryzen 5600X with regards to price to performance ratio.
According to the test conducted by a German website, Comptoir Hardware, the upcoming Core i5 12400F is as good as the Ryzen 5 5600X but for a much lower price. As tested in several applications as well as 12 games, the i5 12400F gives a head to head competition to Ryzen 5600X.
It features 6 cores and 12 threads with two power levels where the first power level has a TDP of 65W which is the standard power consumption of previous Core i5 locked chips but the second power level goes up to 117W that is going to sustain performance numbers higher than on 65W.
The 12400F is made on 10nm technology and according to CPU-Z, it will come with 18MB of L3 cache.
In 12 different games, the average fps of i5 12400F remain close to that of Ryzen 5600X. In some games, the 12400F took the lead while in some, 5600X looked better. Overall, the 12400F is offering a much better value according to Guru3D which claims that the i5 12400F was seen on sale at $200 USD in Canada.
This new chip will be unveiled at CES in January 2022 along with other Alder Lake processors.
